The history of the legendary Nike Blazer
Two years after Nike’s founding, the brand, led by Bill Bowerman, is launching a sneaker named after the hometown of Portland and the local basketball team, the Blazers. Initially, the Nike Blazer was announced as a basketball model, but immediately fell in love not only on the court, but also outside it. The main face of this pair was basketball player George Gerwin, who played brilliantly for the San Antonio Spurs team. A successful strategy sponsored by Gervin has pushed Nike between the leaders of Adidas and Converse.
In terms of materials, the upper of the sneaker was then, as it is now, made of genuine leather or suede, and the outsole is made of vulcanized rubber with herringbone outsole, which at that time was on most basketball shoes. An excellent advertising campaign was the huge brand logo on the side of the sneaker, which could not be overlooked.
Decades later, when Nike released the new Air cushioning system, the model was no longer in demand on the basketball court, but immediately gained new popularity due to its good grip on the board and its simple and reliable design in skateboard movement.
Today, these sneakers are more relevant than ever. Simple, comfortable, reliable and practical, the sneaker comes in a myriad of colors and collaborations that you can find on Bar Sneaker store shelves.
